Writing

After I completed the first draft of a fantasy novel at 36 I’ve strived to make writing a career.  Since then I’ve completed three additional novels. One of which I’ve been working to self publish. In addition to long form, I’ve written content for websites I’ve developed and have written a couple short stories and essays. Most recently I’ve taken up the discipline of joke writing to broaden my experience. From site titles and summaries to complete stories I enjoy the work. I believe my style and voice bring a punchy and thoughtful tone to any assignment.

Web

I’ve been working in web development since the dawn of the web when I was just a teenager. At age 17, I ran the website for a local magazine and soon went on to develop sites for businesses as well known as “The Original Bookbinders” restaurant in Philadelphia. Since then, as programs advanced and changed, so have my skills. During its prime, I developed a variety of applications using Adobe Flash for web, kiosks and animated sequences. Many of my animations are still used, Rothman Orthopedics being a notable example. After the decline of Flash, with a solid knowledge of HTML, I taught myself CSS3 and early jQuery (1.3 back then) and began developing sites this way in 2008. In 2014 I shifted into WordPress and Avada. I continue to develop sites using the most up to date programs and never shy away from learning what’s new.

Statement / Summary
My first work experience was in the service industry, now coming full circle, I find myself there again as a ride share driver. In between was mostly long hours and late nights working alone or with a small group. The tweaks and fixes that always arrived last minute. Having experienced both sides of work I’ve come to appreciate the customer and the producer. Ultimately we all have needs and desires, wants and wishes. The goal then, for any employee, is to see both have a fulfilling experience. Much like a good story, I hope the reader can’t put it down and the publisher is pleased with the profits.

Typist (76 wpm with 99% accuracy), HTML 5, CSS 3, WordPress, Office Applications with expertise in Open Office. Adobe Applications with expertise in Photoshop. Various code editing software. Computer Hardware and Personal Computer assembly. Windows 10 and 11. Limited Mac OS knowledge. Limited Android OS knowledge. Writing in content, short and long forms.

Working with in a variety of fields has lent me some understanding of how teams work and how personal growth happens. In developing websites with others I have learned to take direction and feedback. I have also learned to press when details are unclear. I know how to learn on the fly and in advance of a project, that often would call for expertise that nobody on the team had. I am a good listener and can communicate what I’ve heard and experienced in a meeting or event to others that were not present. I do so accurately and efficiently.  I have managed projects from start to finish and developed whole sites as both manager and developer. I know what to ask for, and when. Timing, getting the information you need when you need it, and knowing how long it might take to get that info; is something I’ve learned over numerous projects from waiting tables to developing deliverables for a trade show.

In summary. I’m a solid communicator, manager and planner. I know when to ask, when to do and when to wait and listen. I can learn on the fly plugging holes or embark in new areas with little or no input.
